nice pickup. glad the game didn't scare away all of the recruits. I know one of them was sitting right in front of me and I just said "dude, you picked the wrong game to come to"

Spoke with Lamar earlier today. He was impressed with the opportunities both on the field and academically with the Cajuns. Enjoyed my conversation with him.

Johnson's mother told me Dr. Zappi UL Egineering Dept. was a major influence in her support for Lamar committing to the Cajuns.

It was certainly refreshing to hear Lamar state how important academics were to him.

  7. Default UL football gets commitment from Johnson

Lamar Johnson felt the love from UL, so he returned the favor.

Johnson, a sophomore safety from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, verbally committed to the Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday after an official visit to Lafayette over the weekend. He plans to sign during the NCAA's midyear signing period, which is Dec. 15-Jan. 15, and will enroll at UL in January with the expectation to participate in spring drills

If the program had a history of turning these guys into studs no.

    In our case, yes.

Ragin' Cajuns Re: Ragin' Cajun Blog: Mississippi Gulf Coast CC S Lamar Johnson commits to UL

Well, several guys that I can think of were unheralded DB's when they got to UL and NFL players after they left.. Orlando, Todd, Ike, Peanut, Mike .. So at least at DB one could say we DO have a history of turning low profile guys into studs.

Keep in mind that Johnson hardly played last year behind an All-American. With more exposure and a productive year, he would have received more interest in time. The MGCCC DC worked with Fouquier at Middle Tennessee. The same connection help the Cajuns land Le'Marcus Gibson.

He had a number of schools looking at him coming out of HS, including Miss. State and Southern Miss.
