Thread: Timeline for New Hire and Who's your candidate?

Default Timeline for New Hire and Who's your candidate?

Guys, haven't been on here in awhile. Sick about the Cajuns, wanted to lay my 2 cents down.

Timeline: I don't think anything will happen until a new AD is hired. No football coach in America will sign on with a school without knowing who his boss will be. This may take another month or more? You guys are closer to the situation than I. The one move that could speed all this up is to move Farmer into the position ASAP.

Short List of Candidates: Joe Deforrest, Assist Head Coach, Oklahoma State
Perfect hire. A former player, currently chief recruiter and Assist head coach for Ok State, which means he's the nuts and bolts guy of the program, knows how to run the program. Would seem to have a wealth of contacts and the experience to build the program. I'm sure he has local and SE and SW ties who can repair the damage of the last 12 years, since Stokley left. Probably cost on the order of $250-300k a year if not more.

Shawn Elliot, Offenisve Line Coach, South Carolina: Would def. bring a high level of intensity to the program. Knows the spread offense inside and out and one of the best recruiters in the SE. Was at Appalachian State for a good many years and produced numerous all-americans. Big motivator, gets the most out of his guys. Old School in his approach and demeaner, a real tough guy that kids respond to. Believe me, the kids he recruited to App State are the reason the school continues to be at the top year in and out. The guys that play at App or the same as the one's UL gets...little or no 3 star guys, they target football players who can RUN and HIT.

    Anyone else?

Terry Bowden- HC of Div. II N. Alabama. Has coached at the Div I-A level at Auburn. has only had 3 seasons total with sub-.500 records at each university except for N. Alabama. Coached at Salem and Samford Universities with great success. Coached the current HC and replacement of his father at Florida St in Jimbo Fisher. The man knows how to run an offense and his name alone would pull in recruits. He obviously knows how to win with a limited budget considering his success even at the Div. I-AA and Div. II level.

    Just my suggestion though

Can't really buy into the idea of Bowden as new coach; strikes me as the football coaching equivalent of Tim Floyd.

no that would be Lane Kiffin if you want to compare anyone to a football version of Tim Floyd. Bowden has had no problems with NCAA violations at any other school. If i remember correctly Bowden didn't get the shot at a NC his first year at Auburn because they were already under NCAA violations from the previous coach and the AD and boosters at that time. I don't think we could find anyone more qualified that has an established name and isn't already taken by a D-I school. My suggestion is getting the facts straight before making such a comparison

not in his first year at N. Alabama where he only lost to games with another coaches players. he has had success at other Div. I-AA and smaller division colleges with fewer resources than he has now and without as big a name as he does now. Troy seems to be doing just fine in conference off of JC guys that have AQ level talent but can't handle the AQ academics or whatever other reasons. Also what's to say that he can't recruit those types of guys to UL. It may take him a year or two to set up his system after weeding out bustle's players but i would be willing to bet he could win more games during the season with bustle's players than bustle ever could.

He has 22 transfers from BCS conference teams and that is only the BCS transfers. They also have a lot of transfer from other D-1 teams. N. Alabama does not have the academic standards that UL has either.

Ok. that is this year. he still had an outstanding team last year and that is with players that hadn't even been in his system a full year. is there anything else you don't like about him other than the fact that you are stuck on the fact he has had so many D-I transfers this year. UNA's transfer requirements are the standard of most university admissions in a 2.0 and being in good academic standing. there FTF standards are ACT of 18 SAT of 860 or 870 i think and a 2.0 core GPA of specified high school courses. not that much lower than our current standards if you think about it and not much lower if at all than many Div. 1-AA schools.
