Guys like Leach and Mangino would either change the culture at UL or lose their minds if they coached here. It would be interesting to see what would happen.
how realistic of a chance do we have of raising a salary for a coach the caliber of leech? I know the RCAF doesn't just have money laying around.
Pierre Duplechain has had a suprising amount of success for such a young guy. I'd put him up there in the top 5 for sure.
The funny part was that I was picturing in my mind Ricky Bustle coming onto here disguised as Bicky Rustle.
As far as even me? I never said he was without fault and that he had done a great job. My comments were simply to those who seemed to be unreasonable.
I can no longer defend him, but do think whatever is to happen should probably wait till the end of the season.

All of these guys mentioned would be great ... for the graveyard we have become. The question is, which one wants to retire from coaching the most after being part of the low budget outfit that we are?
Well one should ask what has made it a graveyard. It is just as true that UL has become a destination spot.
The formula for a coaching graveyard is to hire a late 40s to 50+ coordinator who wants to be able to tell his grand children he was once a head coach. Then you hand out unnecessary extensions. That is the formula used, that is not however the destination UL needs to be locked into.
All UL has to do to break the mould is hire a coach who doesn't want UL to be his last gig and it won't be.
I'm glad you agree. Truth be told neither of my choices has any discernable coaching talent. It's more about drive to succeed, something this program has been sorely lacking in its leadership for the past few years. In case you don't know these guys, here's a bit of a rundown.
Tony Landry: Formerly one of Lafayette's finest gunsmiths who has recentely taken his talents to South Broussard in the petroleum service industry, he has a penchant for MMA and the "can-do" attitude that can take the Cajuns to the next level. Hobbies include skateboarding and eating potato salad.
Pierre Duplechain: Admittedly this pick is a bit of a stretch. He works at the machine shop down the road, and his boss is a real jerk. I'm just trying to help him find a new job.
My vote for new AD is Scott Farmer.
My top 10 replacements for Coach Bustle if Bustle and the Cajuns don't make a bowl game:
1. Bryan Harsin not likely because a much bigger job will be available to him. He gets it done at Boise St. what else can I say.
2. Jim Levitt should be available and would be a great hire, just not sure he wants to come to UL.
3. Mike Leach instant offense and name recognition and the fans will come out.
4. Ed Oregeron who I think will be the next HC at UL. Best recruiter hands down. He will need to hire a good OC.
5. Matt Viator who I think is the 2nd most likely HC at UL. I am not sure what kind of recruiter he his but I know he is a great HC and tireless worker.
6. Mark Mangino same reason as hiring Leach.
7. Major Applewhite name recognition and from Louisiana. Not sure he his a HC.
8. Jeff Bower got it done at USM, but not sure this gets anyone excited.
9. Kerwin Bell seems like a hot coach and I like the write up someone posted.
10. Joe Deforest who is a UL grad and seems to be a great recruiter.
