Yes Hammer... you are right that McNeese interrupted... but let's go back to talking about the next candidate and quit quibbling over admission standards at places that have nothing to do with our problems.
I'd like the next coach to be very close to what you describe. We also need a guy that can assist in overcoming our poor public image. He needs to be articulate, engaging, energetic and knowledgable about the importance of fans and money (RCAF). He has to be able to mask his manliness when interviewing with our school management. I think you can understand why. But, he needs to be a force.
There are a serioius number of up and coming young guys in the coaching ranks that know football. They know that you succeed by choosing solid staff and managing the system. We all talk about the cost of the head coach... but by far the biggest issue is the cost of getting a good staff.
If I were a recognized young future leader/coach, my first order of business would be to secure funds for my staff before I concerned myself with a large salary. A coach that gets a great staff and finally puts UL in a bowl will not have to worry about his next contract negotiation and salary. He will never make it without a great staff.
