Thread: Tell me if I am wrong!

Default Tell me if I am wrong!

I am extremely frustrated after tonight. I had a players mom scream at me and I screamed back. I wa not vulgar at all. I was on #44 back because he made a stupid play going after a lineman after he was flattened by that player. He said that I should go on the fid and try, and I td him that if it wasn't for people like me, he wouldn't have a scholarship. I told him that he is better than what he is showing and we expect more. Then the mom started screaming at me and I told her that this is not a high school and if she can't take it, then she can go with her son.

I once again was never vulgar and Father asked me to calm down and I did for a while. Then, Grant Fleming, who I have the utmost respect for, turned to me and said "it's just a game". I understand that, but when you are a D1 athlete getting a free education, it's not just a game. Maybe if the Cajuns treat this as more than a game, we won't get embarrassed like norma to an 0-26 team.

I would like to start by saying that I never said that "this is just a game" or even knew cjr3888 was yelling at Bernard Smith. I heard some guy yelling in the stands the entire game about how much we sucked because we were losing to an 0 and 26 team. How much he hated Coach Bustle and Coach Fouquier. He did not make these comments one time but from the start of the game until the end. So at one point in the game I was very frustrated because I cannot help my team because of an injury and turned to the stands to see this man degrading my team. I simply mouthed to him that if he hates us this much then why doesn't he leave. I never said anything about "its just a game". I have been playing this game since I was 8 years old, trust me it is more than a game. If you knew how hard we work you would know it is more than a game to all of us. I would also like to say that if you do have the utmost respect for me then please don't degrade my team and coaches that does nothing to help. Secondly, for raginwaldo and his comment about how we need to recruit players who give a ________ about this alma mater. I had offers to go play for Northwestern in Illinois, University of Houston, the Navy, UL Monroe, and a few other colleges but I chose to come here. I chose UL because I wanted to change the program. I was tired of people talking trash about my home school and felt like if I stayed home then maybe I can get some other local talent to stay here. I care more about this University more than I can say in this message. Another thing to raginwaldo, why would you say send me to a JUCO for something I never said. That is the problem with this site people think they hear things or know partial truths and make players and or coaches out to be the bad guy. Just like when I broke my hand against Georgia. I used a persons phone to text my parents because they were freaking out and did not know what happened to me so I let them know I was alright. I did not even have my phone on me and that was the only text I sent. Then because the camera turned to me when I was texting, everyone assumed I am texting friends and that I don't give a ______ about this team. Please just be sure you know the facts before you degrade a player. Finally, I just think it is sad that even when you play a home game you still have to put up with your own fans talking trash about your team. I am not sending this to start a fight or anything. I am very grateful for the fans we have and hope to see more in the future. I just wanted to set the facts straight about what I so said did. I hope all of you will continue to come to support us. We need all the support we can get. Thanks again. Go Cajuns.

Just a ____ing game??? good revoke that dude's scholarship and see how much of "just a game" it is when he's going to some JUCO and standing on the sideline on his cellphone saying mommy i should have cared more about the team.

Maybe we need to recruit more players who actually gave a ____ about their school and alma mater to where they wouldn't want to get embarrassed for homecoming.

I believe you were wrong. Screaming at players then telling their parent "where to go" is wrong under any circumstances.

I gotta agree with some of what you say. These guys are babied by this staff. Have you ever seen anyone get their _____ handed to them by a coach after a bad play. You wont see it. Go to practice after a loss and you will see guys acting as if they just won the conference.
It starts at the top. Bottom line is Bustle isn't getting it done. End of story.
He has brought us up from the bottom but the middle of the SunBelt is not where we need to be.

Thanks crawfish for your opinion. I told the players that they are better than they are showing. I am of the opinion that if they are old enough to serve in the military, then they are adults like the rest of us. We need to quit treating these guys like they are playing pee wee football. And telling the mom "where to go" were my exact words. I was not vulgar, I simply told her that she can go away if she can't take people getting on her son and expecting more from him.

UL Football Re: Tell me if I am wrong!

No, you are not wrong. As a fellow RCAF supporter, I am outraged by our coaches, players, and administration. It's not just a game! We should compete at collegiate sports to win and do our best. It's lessons and motivation for life.

I agree, and that's what I told Father after the game, it's just very frustrating because we are stuck at the hump and can't get over.

What is Grant supposed to do. He is sticking up for his teammate. Short of coming into the stands and trying to fight someone, I think he was trying to defuse the situation and make it not as bad.

I understand the situation, because I have yelled before and had a players parents nearby. You have to understand as well that parents don't think rationally. It is their child, they are going to come back no matter what is said.

Also, Grant is a senior who has been the most consistent player on defense for four years and played through injury, and has been an All- Sunbelt level player. So he won't be at a Juco. II think he was trying to stick up for his teammate more than anything. It was just a terrible night.

I guess my view reflects my age, as civility and good sportmanship were much more "in" when I was growing up. From a pratical standpoint though, we all know there will probably be a new staff in place next season, and fans verball lynching players is not a reason for future recruits to want to come here. So are we shooting ourselves in the foot by displaying this type of behavior? Do we really want a recruit to talk to #44. If the player whose parents were told where to go were asked by a recruit about what he thinks about the fanbase, what do you think he would say? The coach may be gone, but the fans are permanent.

But that is just my (obvious minority) viewpoint for what it is worth.

I see your point crawfish, but I am of the younger (I guess) generation and I am tired of players being treated like kids. They are ADULTS! We can all agree that we are frustrated with the state of the program.

look dude, if you are gonna turn around and say it is just a game, that means you had no intention of putting your heart into that game to win. As a matter of fact you might as well walk off the field. If you had played athletics before you would know, I know that when you practice hard and sacrafice all your time into the game you have to be discouraged and to say it is just a game? And on top of all that coming from one of your supposed leaders on the team. I see why we are where we are.

I did play athletics. I don't know if it changes your opinion, but Grant wasn't dressed out. I'm sure he was trying to stick up for his teammate, and short of coming into the stands to fight a fan what was he supposed to do.

I know that since you played athletics you realized the importance of sticking up for your teammates as well. Also, I think anyone who is questioning Grants Fleming's dedication to this program is silly. He was one of the few top flight local athletes to actually suit up and play for this program when he had opportunities elsewhere.
