MECHE’S GAME-WINNING SINGLE SENDS SERIES TO GAME SEVEN

Game 7 of the Fall World Series will be Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

LOUISIANA La. – Trey Meche’s game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Red a 6-5 win and has forced a Game 7 in the 2004 Red-White Fall World Series. Game 7 will be played Monday at 6 p.m.

After holding the White team at bay in the top of the first, the Red team pounded out four hits to quickly jump out to a 3-0 lead after one inning.

With two outs, Josh Landry laced a single up the middle past White starting pitcher Jonathon Cottrell. Phillip Hawke followed up with a single. Dallas Morris sent a two-RBI double to left center, scoring Landry and Hawke. A Jonathan Lucroy singled through the left side to score Morris. Meche lined out to end the inning.

The White cut the Red’s lead to two, 3-1, in the top of the fourth. For the second game in a row, John Coker led off the inning with a solo homerun over the left field fence. White added another run in the sixth when Coker scored off a one-out sacrifice fly to right by Leonard Guerrero to make it a 3-2 game.

However, Red made it a two-run game again with a Jonathan Lucroy solo homerun over the left centerfield fence in the bottom half of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, however, Coker’s second homerun of the game, a three-run shot, gave White its first lead of the game. Red responded in the bottom frame with Hawke’s second solo homerun of the series. With the bases loaded and no outs, Meche sent a single through the left side to score Morris to give Red the series equalizer.

Justin Boyette received the win for the Red team, pitching five strong innings. Boyette allowed one run, while scattering five hits with four strikeouts. Jeremy Collins received the loss for the White team, allowing two runs on two hits.

Offensively, Coker led the White team, going 3-for-3 with two homeruns and four RBI. For the Red team, Morris and Lucroy each went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Seems to me like this is a move designed to get some arms available.

Red overcame 3-2 series deficit to win the World Series

LOUISIANA La. – Phillip Hawke’s third homerun of the series in the eighth inning Red team’s lead and later preserved Red's 5-4 game seven victory and the 2004 Fall World Series crown here Tuesday night at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

Trey Meche then advanced Dees on a sacrifice bunt. Cody Martin sent a sacrifice fly to center field to score Dees, increasing Red’s lead to two runs.

In the ensuing inning, White added a run to trim Red’s lead to 3-2. With two on and two out, Justin Merendino singled up the middle to score Micah Cockrell.

In the bottom half of the eighth, Phillip Hawke added an insurance run, with his third homerun of the series, increasing Red’s lead to 5-3.
