    UL Football Retire, Ricky, Retire...

With just one week before training camp opens, Ricky Williams has decided to retire after just five seasons, according to the Miami Herald, following the footsteps of Jim Brown and Barry Sanders. (Courtesy of CNNSI.com)

    Ricky Runs into Retirement

I know this has nothing to do with UL, but I thought some of you guys might like to know if you didn't hear on Sportscenter. Talk about a big headache that the Saints got rid of at the right time. I had mixed feelings at the time of the trade, but in hindsight we robbed them. We got two first rounders, Deuce became a superstar and a rock on and off the field, and there's a little bit of sadistic sweetness in knowing that finally, something this bad happened to someone other than the Saints.

I think he is trying to get out of his drug bust.

Either way I have turned 180 and am so glad he is not a Saint.

Looks like another case of loads of talent but little heart for the game. Too bad; he really lit it up when he was on his game.

    Original quote from Randy Mueller
    Ricky, Ricky, Ricky.

As tremendous a football player as Ricky Williams can be, it's exactly this type of out-of-the-blue thinking -- suddenly announcing his retirement after just five seasons in the NFL -- that factored into our decision to trade him to to the Miami Dolphins for two first-round picks after the 2001 regular season.
Mueller was New Orleans' GM when the Saints traded Ricky Williams to the Miami Dolphins in March of 2002.

Some say Mueller was fired by Benson for trading Ricky. If that was in fact Benson's thinking Meueller has just been exonerated.
