Thread: UL basketball getting close

  1. Default UL basketball getting close

For the UL men's basketball players and coaches, the wait is almost over.

The NCAA permits coaches to work two hours per week with each student-athlete from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, but since 2008 that time could be used however each program saw fit.

Good article. Talk to several players last week and they are ready for season to start. Keep us posted on when we get to check them out.

I will. Going to get another midweek update and have more basketball stories moving ahead.

Doesn't look like it this year. But there will be an open scrimmage at EK Long for the students and the Cajundome for season-ticket holders in the preseason. Coach Marlin and Scott Farmer were working to finalize those plans as of last week.

Travis Bureau gaining 10 pounds since last season is the most encouraging piece of info in that article. Hard to believe he is now over 200 pounds. This may prevent him from being injured as often as he was in the past.

Seeing Travis up close, he has gained noticeable weight in his upper body and arms. On the court, he is driving more to the rim instead of just settling for outside shots. He has a chance to have a similar breakout season like Tyren Johnson did last season. The choice is up to him as to whether he wants to put in the work. So far, he has.

Some people asked me today as to when there will be an open scrimmage for fans and season-ticket holders. I'm going to talk with coach Marlin in the next day or so to find out what has been decided. As of today, nothing had been announced yet.

I'm ready to see more hustle and good defense.

I remember several years ago at STM the ball was on the floor and no one dove for it. Danny Broussard called time out immediately, took all five out and replaced them. I expect to see that same intensity now for the Cajuns!!
