We were trying to cover a WR that's getting some serious buzz as a Heisman Trophy candidate with CB and Safeties from towards the bottom of our 2-deep rotation. Ain't no surprise they put up the numbers they did in the 3rd quarter when so much of our defense is getting carried off the field by the training staff.

No, we didn't. We left Auriene out to dry by himself with a heisman candidate wide receiver. I will say I thought Auriene played a really good game considering the circumstances.

By that point, who else did they have out there to help Auriene to help cover him?

And they did try doubling Blackmon during some of those drives in the 3q. It didn't help. There were plays where OSU threw to him in double coverage and he still was able to out-muscle our guys to catch the ball.

I thought it pretty clear that the decision was made to play OSU receivers straight up and focus on containing OSU's running game and short passing offense. And that worked in the first half as we were able to hold them to short yardage on early downs in that half. Second half, they were consistently getting 4 to 6 yards on 1st and 2nd down. Makes it a lot harder on your secondary when you have to worry about both run and pass on 3rd down. Good thing is that we aren't going to see this level of talent in the rest of conference play, even from Troy.

Troy will still beat us easily if have another bad second half. It's as simple as that. Playing one good half is only gonna get us wins against ULM, WKU, and maybe one of the Florida schools.
