Thread: Spikes' turn comes

  1. Default Spikes' turn comes

Aaron Spikes patiently waited for his opportunity to become UL's starting tailback after arriving on campus last summer.

With Kevis Streeter suffering a season-ending knee injury last week, the talented freshman from Dallas will finally get his first collegiate start on Friday when No. 22 Oklahoma State comes to Cajun Field.

As unfortunate these types of injuries are, it gives other guys an opportunity to show what they can do on the field. If my memory is correct, Fenroy first went in for our starting RB b/c he got hurt. The injury was not as bad as streeter's but you get my point. With that said, I really hope we will get to see the same kind of player that streeter was when/if he returns next year.

Chester Johnson-Chester had a shoulder injury????

Deion Wallace was supposed to be the man, but an unknown guy named Fenroy came in and the rest was history.

Yes and no. You're right that Chester Johnson was the RB that got replaced, but Fenroy didn't outright outplay Wallace. If you remember correctly, Wallace and Fenroy were neck and neck halfway through Fall Practice then Wallace had an injury that slowed him down and sidelined him for a few practices, that allowed Fenroy to clearly overtake him on the depth chart. That was what allowed him to be in position to take over for Johnson.

With that said, could you imagine what 2005-2008 would have looked like had Wallace won out that #2 position (remember, the RB that lost that battle got redshirted, and it turned out to be wallace). Fenroy may not have had his # retired, and not smashed every school rushing record.

You would be correct. I thought Johnson went out with an ACL injury though but that was 5 years ago so I can't recall. It would have been wonderful watching Wallace and Fenroy running together in the triple option. I wish we would still run this set.
