I really hope we don't hire this guy.
I really hope we don't hire this guy.
I have absolutely nothing against DeForest; but I don't want to hire ANY head coach who has ever had anything to do with this University. We have too damn much inbreeding already.
We've struggled in football MOST of the last 25 years. None of those coaches had ANY ties to the University. What is the model to follow?

Here's what OSU fans think about us possibly getting Deforest. Some good things said and some bad. If we hire him, it means he killed it in the interview and that will make me feel better. But, I would still be a little nervous about it.
The best/worst thing about that OKState board discussing DeForest...the mention by one poster of Bustle's salary, noting how comically low it was and that they wouldn't have to worry about DeForest taking any OKSt. assistants with him were he to get the job. I know we're very limited by what we can do monetarily, but the general point is that $200,000 (and even the $400,000 we're about to pay) is small peanuts in the D1 coaching world when you have Nick Sabans and Mack Browns and Bob Stoops' of the world pulling down multimillion dollars every season for doing the same job that our coach will do for a minuscule fraction of the money, if not doing more work because of the difficulty of pulling in good recruiting classes and turning things around here as opposed to rolling out of bed and landing 4-and-5-star recruits at major programs.
If we hire Deforest, even more importantly than with Orgeron, it will be ABSOLUTELY essential that he hire good coordinators. I don't really want him, and I'd prefer Hudspeth, but its looking more like a reality that Defo may be our coach. With that said, a coach who isn't an offensive or defensive guru could work out well if he has good coordinators, because he's more likely to let those coaches do their job and and do what they see fit to fix a problem.
Still, I'm hoping that the hire is Hudspeth.
i think you might be better with a higher profile head coach, because what we are going to offer for OC and DC coordinator you won't get that good of coaches @ 150K each.
Maybe I read the article wrong, but it didnt say "If he would be hired..." If he would be hired, Gundy would want him to go immediately. From the article it seemed if he werent hired then he would ask him to stay until the bowl game, but didnt say anything after the bowl game.
I saw more bad things than good.
Compare their statements about Deforest...A special Teams coach for crying out loud, to
LSU Tigerpoop statements about Crowton on this Forum Thread

Similar reactions begging us to take the candidates. Clearly bad choice if UL picks Deforest imo.
To go from a Special Teams Coach to Head Coach of a football team would be a silly jump and he may be a good recruiter, but you don't base your whole football program around Recruiting. He wasn't even a Head Coach in High school before moving up to the College level, I just dont see this as a good selection based on EXPERIENCE.
I trust we will make the right decision in the end! If they pick deforest, then I guess my trust was wrong haha
I guess we all read into things differently. As for Deforest - I wouldn't have a problem with that hire. I wish I knew more about him; but still would be OK. And he is the Assoc Head Coach, who happens to coach special teams. That reads to me like he is groomed for a HC job; but highly unlikely at a "major" BCS/AQ type of program. And wasn't our last HC also the special teams coach??
We need some energy, leadership, and someone who whats to see this program succeed, and someone that can recruit this region. I think he brings that to Lafayette; but as many have mentioned, he'd better have some solid coordinators/staff ready to come along. JM 2 cents.
