Acadiana's dry weather and drought will worsen into the weekend as high pressure stays dominant across the region into the weekend. Temperatures are expected to moderate over the next several days with highs pushing into the mid-80s for Thursday into the weekend. Record-breaking overnight lows in the 40s will moderate into the 50s later this week and near 60 for the weekend.
Plenty of sunshine remains in the forecast through the weekend with a few clouds possible for Saturday and Sunday. An upper level system and weak surface trough will approach the area by Monday possibly allowing for some shower activity. But any shower activity will likely be moisture deficient and not nearly enough to help with our current drought and fire issues.
An Outdoor Burning Ban will continue for all of Louisiana until further notice as our very dry conditions will likely continue for at least several more weeks. Several fires have been noticed in the open marshes of Vermilion and Cameron parishes over the last several days.
meanwhile, an area of disturbed weather north of Puerto Rico is expected to develop into a tropical, or possibly a tropical hybrid system. This system, if named, will be "Otto" and is expected to move to the northeast into the open Atlantic.
The tropics are expected to stay active over the next few weeks particularly in the Caribbean, but not in the Gulf of Mexico as upper level conditions have essentially shut down the Gulf likely for the rest of this hurricane season.
