Rooster dance aside, I think a great way to grow tailgating at the University would be for every tailgating spot to develop a Krewe name.
Also, the school should hosts some cook offs each weekend.
The Krewe de Chewe is unique. Let them have their moment.
A big group of my friends in my hometown do a version of this every time we get together. We do the dance to "Who Stole My Chicken" by Keith Frank. We actually have someone feed the chickens while everyone else are the chickens. We are in our 20's and we've had both older (up to 60's) people and younger (as young as 4) people join us. We've done it with up to 20 people at a time and everyone who watches it wants to do it with us. It's all about having fun and not caring what the rest of the nation thinks of us.
I might understand it if everyone that participated in the rooster dance was drunk out of their minds, but from what I can tell, everybody was completely sober. I hope this isn't put on ESPN. It would be an embarrassment to our university.
Some of you are just ridiculous. We finally get a chance to be put on national TV, ESPN wants to show some what some of the fans do while tailgating, and the UL athletic department tells them to go visit the Krewe de Chew. They're doing the roosta dance and there is nothing you can do to stop it. I think some of your are complaining for two reasons: 1) you have nothing better to do than complain on raginpagin and 2) you're jealous you're tailgating spot is not being featured by ESPN. You want your 10 seconds on ESPN and you're not getting it.
I'm glad ESPN isn't doing this for Saturday game and using other people's tailgating spots as video for what tailgating is like at Cajun Field. It would consist of people watching the LSU game on the TV at their tailgating spot.
You know what WON'T make us be viewed as the team from The Waterboy....
WINNING THE GAME!
Wow pages and pages of disagreement. Look, I understand people are having fun and that's what it's all about, but you have to look outside the box. I guarantee that over half of the tailgating population (60-75%) think that this dance is over-the-top ridiculous and we're only talking about our localized tailgating, not ESPN's audience. I know you guys in the Krewe love to cook. Why not do it big with lots of cajun cooking and have the cameras focus in on these positives for our community and team instead of ESPN making a mockery of the weirdest looking roosta dance accompanied with an extremely weird and overly done thriller dance. We tailgate about 4 spots away and we notice that everyone around us thinks and feels the same way. Do it every tailgate if it's the absolute funnest thing you guys do each week. Long story short, it doesn't have to be Nationally Televised. Continue feeding everyone, playing the 30,000 song playlist, etc etc. I love tailgating just like everyone else, maybe do some zydeco cajun dancing (just leave the silly costumes out of it).
PS......
I know NFL teams have weird people dressing up weird ("Whistle Man" for the Saints, "Dawgs in the Dog Pound" for the Browns, etc, etc....) That's the NFL, these teams are established and not looked at on a small scale. We already get laughed at for the dumbest crap. Don't add one more.
WITH ALL DUE RESPECT!
