    Escape from reality
Video games offer intense competition in fantasy world

LOUISISNA La. — A game by any other name just wouldn’t be the same.

Every year EA Sports releases NCAA Football and Madden, and each year the video games are a big hit with consumers.

It’s been no different this year with the release of NCAA Football 2005 and sales are expected to skyrocket later this month with the Aug. 12 release of the Madden NFL 2005 game.

The games retail for $49.99 and are available on just about any platform, including personal computers. The games are more popular with consoles and are usually released at a later date for personal computers.

The games have become so popular most retailers now offer the opportunity to reserve a copy with a deposit. Some stores are already taking deposits for Madden 2005.

Realistic features, advanced graphics and total control gameplay make the EA Sports games the hottest titles on the market.

The games are rated “E” for everyone and target an audience ranging from youngsters to adults.

There are competitors on the market, but few gain the praise of the EA Sports games. Alfred McZeal, a barber, spends about 15 hours a week playing video games. McZeal said he and his customers sometimes even play at work.

“I’ve been playing EA games probably since 1995 or 1996,” he said. “They’re more competitive and more realistic.”

McZeal isn’t alone. Former UL Lafayette football player Ricky Calais also said he plays just the EA titles.

Former LSU star and St. Louis Rams’ linebacker Trev Faulk said he used to play some of the 989 Sports games, but now only plays EA games.

“Pretty much the last three or four years I play just the EA games,” he said. “I used to play College Game Day by 989. I used to get on that pretty good, but now I play just NCAA and Madden.”

Most gamers stay loyal to EA Sports as well. Despite owning numerous copies of Madden and NCAA, Matt Neally is a repeat buyer each time a new release hits the shelf.

“I buy Madden every year no matter what,” he said. “I try to buy NCAA every year, but I don’t have a lot of time with school and work. I bought both last year and I’ll probably buy both this year, too.”

    Gameplay features

Perhaps the biggest reason the EA titles are perennial favorites is because of their graphics and features.

    Shoots,
I wish I would have known you had the rosters. I just mailed my off to a friend in Utah to get the rosters. Would have been alot quicker Bigearl to mail it to you.

Turbine, I definetly find that we are underrated. dropped in alot of categories. RB, OL..it's amazing. but, I do know that during the season when you improve and win (in real life), they do adjust it online when you play online. We will just have to see.

this game is definetly harder, but alot of fun.

I'd be more than happy to hook anybody up with the rosters if they'd like.

I have a question. Is there a big difference in 2005 and 2004? I am trying to decide between NCAA 2005 and ESPN 2K5. All the reviews are great for the ESPN game and it is only $20. I have played NCAA 2004 and thought it was ok. I can't seem to find a copy of either to rent so I need some help. The Madden games have not changed much since 2002, so I will probably pass on it this year.

yes, NCAA 2005 is different than 2004 and worth the money IMO. Read some of the articles about it at ign.com or easports.com regarding all the new features. The dynasty mode has a lot of new features that make the game more interesting...AND DIFFICULT!

Did I mention I bought the game guide?

I think they attempted to look at the BIG picture, like all the quarterbacks combined. Because if you look at the portion "Key Offensive Player" it has Sophomore Quarterback #15 6'3" 215 Lbs

Speed 74 Awareness 68 Throwing Power 82 Throwing Accuracy 86

Well the average on that is 77.5 so a QB rating of 67 just does not jive unless they are looking at the loss of a Senior QB in Rekeita.

I just received my memory card back from ps2rosters.com so I just started a new season on the All-American level. Man its hard to score with our offense.

    Run the option...

I tried that also .. I have a little success with the "speed option" plays. When I run the "power option" I always seem to run into my O-line & tackled before I have a chance to pitch the ball.

i've only played once and i couldn't even figure out how to pitch the ball...i just made sure that i ran toward the sidelines long enough to clear the o-line...it seemed to work pretty well from there
