For most graduating high school softball players, the end of the school year marks the end of the schedule. The ol’ glove goes up on the same shelf as the newly earned diploma.
For Heather Warren, the equipment won’t be gathering dust any time soon.
Warren, who as a Diboll Ladyjack led her team to a school-best 25-6 record and the team’s first district championship, garnered such post-season honors as the District 20-3A MVP and Academic All-State - a feat requiring an average of 94 or above throughout high school.
Warren was also recognized as an honorable mention selection to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State team and will play in TGCA’s All-Star game Tuesday in North Richland Hills as a member of the Clas1A-3A division.
“All of this (the All-Star game and the All-State selection) is such a big honor,” Warren said. “You dream of these things, but you don’t really expect them when you’re going through your career.”
In May, Warren became one of three Ladyjacks to move on to the collegiate softball ranks, signing with the University of Louisiana. She will study math communications and journalism in college, with the hopes of somehow furthering her softball career.
“They already have a pretty stout team, so I’m going to have to work my way into a spot on the roster,” Warren said.
