BATON ROUGE — The West All-Stars have endured their share of struggles in the LHSCA softball doublehader.

In the past 13 years, they have defeated the East All-Stars only twice, but thanks to Port Barre’s Codi Runyan, the West All-Stars swept the East All-Stars 2-1 and 6-4 during Saturday’s event which was held in Baton Rouge at LSU’s Softball Complex.

Runyan, who has signed with the University of Louisiana, went a combined two-for-four in the game with a double and a RBI en route to garnering the game’s Most Valuable Player for the West squad.

“It was so much fun,” Runyan said. “There was a lot of talent on the field and everyone has been so nice.”

Teurlings Catholic shortstop and McNeese State signee Brooke Brodhead also had a good showing, going 1-for-3 on the day with an RBI double.

In game one, with the West trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Runyan tied the game with a two-out RBI double down the left field line plating Savanna Sims from third base.
