As previously reported by Frozen Chomp, the Louisiana IceGators signed Gator legend, Shawn McNeil for the 2010-11 season.
McNeil played in 274 games with the IceGators of the ECHL and scored 298 points, making him the fourth leading scorer in IceGators history. He is only behind John Spoltore, Chris Valecevic, and Jay Murphy, all of whom played at least 2 more years with the Gators.
Most recently he has played oversees with Hern EV and showed that the 32 year old still has a place in hockey by scoring 58 points in 38 regular season games. He also scored 18 points in 9 playoff games in the 2009-10 season.
This signing is huge preseason news for the IceGators. McNeil is a crafty veteran that will bring leadership and points. McNeil and Trevor Krazerwiscz are both centers so they may not be on the ice at the same time but these two players may rank in the top 10 in points in the league at the end of the season. With only a month until the first game it is an exciting time because the roster is going to slowly come into place. Please check us daily for roster updates. As always, Geaux Gators!
