President E. Lewis Stephens, of the Southwestern Industrial Institute, located in Lafayette, La., has given renewed assurance of his level-headed executive ability in his recent selection of Florent Sontag as head of the department of music of the Institute.

Florent Sontag has the honor of being a Louisiana boy, and now Louisiana has the honor of claiming him as one of her own. The son of a musician of eminence, the paternal grandnephew of a prima-dona, Henrietta Sontag (in her day a French celebrity,) Florent Sontag has added to a natural love for music the skill and knowledge attained by infinite work and pains taking. He has a vast practical experience.

Some one has happily conceived the idea to have a concert in the Auditorium of the Industrial Institute, on Friday, Sept 27. And a musical treat of unexcelled merit it will be, for it is almost certain that Prof. Mayer, the distinguished violoncellist of Opelousas will there to join his great talents to those of Hayden and Sontag, making the entertainment of the 27th of September one of unsurpassed brilliancy. It is doubtful if three musicians of equal ability have ever entertained and audience in Southwest Louisiana. And that will not be all of the concert, either. A few numbers will be played by the Lafayette Orchestra and the Lafayette Brass Band, under the direction of Prof. Sontag.
