High School Football Week 3

There were some pretty impressive performances this week in the area.

Acadiana (#46 in Rivals Top 100) is still rolling into a huge showdown in two weeks with STM. STM just put the beat down 56-23 on Catholic-BR (#3 5A LHSAA). STM has a big test next week as they travel to Evangel, who had a bye week after beating Sulphur 41-7 in week 2.

Lafayette is 2-1, but has tough games ahead against New Iberia (3-0), Barbe(3-0), Lagrance (2-1), and Acadiana (3-0).

Erath (3-0) is surprising me, but will come back down to earth once they enter district play. They should make the playoffs, but will be a low seed.

Beau Chene (3-0) is surprising everyone, and might not be tested until October 22 against Northside.

Loreauville (3-0) is outscoring opponents 164-18 this year. I'm more impressed with the defense then the offense so far. LHS held West St Mary to only 1 first down all game. October 15 with be a huge showdown versus district favorite Opelousas Catholic (2-1).

New Iberia is 3-0, but is an injury to Jordy Joseph away from having their season in the drains.

Jeanerette (2-1) is in the same boat, an injury to Amp Williams and they are done.

That Acadiana/STM game is going to be great. I still believe Acadiana is the best team in the area, but they will be challenged.

Beau Chene is a big surprise. They are better than they have been ever, but they are 3-0 on a weak schedule. Cecilia will beat them before they get to Northside. Still, they should have one of their best ever seasons.

The second half of the season is going to be where Loreauville shows who they are. Welsh doesnt seem as good as expected and the other two opponents are perennial losing record teams. I think Loreauville will still get through their schedule with maybe only 1 loss, but be ranked somewhat low in the playoffs (8-14 seed) due to their power rating. Usually 1A and 2A in this area dont get high power points due to the collective quality in the area typically. I do think Loreauville, despite where they are seeded, will do better than their seed and beat some teams others may have them losing to. As you know, they are a very solid team.
