Thread: Marlin Madness Begins November 12th in the Cajun Dome

  1. UL Basketball Marlin Madness Begins November 12th in the Cajun Dome

What will it take to sell out the Cajun Dome on November 12th ?

I know ( if the scedule is anything like last year) the first game of the 2010 UL Baskeball Season will be going up against the first round of the LAHS football playoffs and that will keep some away from the game . . .

On the potential for positive attendance numbers . . . football season will be over for a bunch of schools and at least for those fans they will need a Friday Night sports fix.

With the excitment a new basketball coach brings, UL has the answer!

So . . . What kind of marketing and ticket drive would it take for UL to sell out the game on Friday night, November 12th against New Mexico State in the Cajundome at 7:05 p.m.

Love your passion turbine, but let's be realistic.

The Cajuns have NEVER sold out the Cajundome.

You can market your butt off and get a really nice crowd. But I don't think you could "sell out" the dome that night if you gave away all the tickets

I have to agree with Jay on this one for sure. Even the big games hosting WKU on ESPN, finals of the SBC Tourney, etc. we have never gone over 10K in the dome.

You would have to get a bus and go pick up about 7-9K fans, and personally bring them to the dome and give them a free ticket just to finish filling it up from the 4-5K that will already be on hand.

New era games can be bigger than the post season, you just have to tap into and capture the imagination of the community.

The largest crowd to date for a Ragin' Cajuns basketball game in the facility came on Dec. 16, 1992, when 11,479 fans watched UL defeat Loyola-Marymount 87-73

I remember a UNO game 20 years ago or so that was very nearly full. But, yeah - I doubt we can get more than 5-6,000 at any game this year.

if marlin comes in and wins right away, and we have a good record going in to late january early feb, there will be an electric buzz around lafayette. people in lafayette love doing the new cool thing...in this case UL basketball, we easily get more than 6 maybe closer 7-8...that is if we are winning

A Guinness attempt at halftime by the crowd and 8000 students doing something stupid to get in the record book. College students love that crap!! Make it a tradition to try and top it again in the Spring, then again the following year at Cajun Field. Or free pizza and soda for all students in attendence. OR Both! With a little creativity by the SGA and Marketing it can be done. Don't be so negetive!! Go for it Turbine!!!
