Thread: UL Game Towing

  1. Default UL Game Towing

The University of Louisiana is celebrating the win at their first home game of the season. But for some Cajun fans, the euphoria quickly ended as soon as they left the field. Some had to pay nearly $250, after they parked at Westwood Village Shopping Center across Bertrand St. and they found that their vehicles had been towed. UL officials say they realize this is a re-occuring problem.

"I think once people see that Cajun Field parking is full, then they're just kind of own their own... and that's not the case," said UL Assistant Athletic Director, John Dugas.

Last season, when Southern University came to town, the stands overflowed and so did the nearby parking lots at private properties. The owner of Any Body Towing on Cameron St. says the company towed more than 50 vehicles that day.

Saturday, the stands were not packed but Cajun Field parking lot did fill up, causing officials to open up their overflow lots. This includes the Cajundome, Blackham Coliseum, and the Hilton Garden Inn. Dugas wants fans to know of these other free parking options, so that at future games, they won't be tempted to park at nearby private properties.

Anyone know if they tow vehicles that are parked in the wrong lots inside Cajun Field?

I got there about an hour and a half before kick off and once inside the gates, I wasn't given much direction. So, I sort of followed the car in front of me. On the way back to my car, I noticed other cars sporting a 'B' tag on their rearview mirrors. Lo and behold I parked in the B lot. Oops. I knew that parking was too good to have not been taken for some reason. No one ever stopped/yelled/chased me down for anything, so I didn't know I was in the wrong area.

I've only seen them towing cars in th elots when they block the access lanes or are in areas designated as non-vehicle tailgating areas.

My son did get towed from the Stage / Baja Grill shopping center last year. It was towed to a place in Scott (other towing companies being used were all the way in St. Martinville). the guy at the twoing yard was a real ____head with his Barney Fife attitude towards people retrieving there vehicles.

Wow, yikes. As I was walking toward my car, there was a Guy's towing truck parked INSIDE the B lot. At that point, I wanted to sprint to my car. lol

I am not sure why this is such a big news story. The towing companies have been doing this for years. Our tailgating spot is right on the fence line on Bertrand and we often tell people to move their cars when we see them parking next to the ice machine/WOW.

It was guy's towing that I saw, looks like you lucked out on that one, I think they should write parking tickets instead of towing, 200 dollars is alot for what could just be a mistake especially if nobody told you anything different

I think people are being retarded to think they can just park in a parking lot of a shopping center to go to a UL game... That lot has always been off limits to game events, since when is this time an exception. It's not university property nor is it their fault. I do think $200 plus is very steep for not being against any law or city rule... Fans can park at blackem or the printing press for free, how many other big name football schools allow free parking right at stadium??

How can ABC tow company, tell if u are at one of those establishments or at the game ??? Unless caught in the act of parking and immediately walking across the street to the game. If I was a customer of one of those places, and walked out and my carnwas towed, I'd be very unpleasant to deal with

They do sit and wait. Also, nothing is open at the end of the parking lot. If you park at the back, chances are you aren't shopping.
