LOUISIANA La. - Louisiana's Lady Cajun head volleyball coach Becky Madden announced the signing of Universal City, Texas, outside hitter Erika Castro to a letter of intent this week.
As a senior, Castro led St. Mary's Hall School to a 36-3 record in 2003 and the top private school ranking in Texas.
Castro led the Barons to back-to-back Southwest Prepartory Conference Division I titles in 2002 and 2003, the first two Division I titles in the school's 15-year history.
Castro was a four-year letterwinner for head coach April Fricke at St. Mary's Hall. She was the team captain during her senior season and was named to the SPC All-Tournament and All-South Zone Teams.
She finished in the top 10 in kills, digs, and hitting percentage in San Antonio.
As a freshman, she guided the Barons to the SPC Division II championship.
Castro was a member of the Lone Star Dream Team and was listed as "one of the outside hitters to watch" by Lonestarvolleyball.com.
Castro was also recruited by Troy State, Sam Houston State, Georgia Southern, Metropolitan State (Colo.), Stephen F. Austin, Lamar, Georgia State, and Kent State.
