I personally like the font we use, and I don't mind a cayenne pepper as an apostrophe. However, this retarded looking pepper we have walking around on game day is horrible! If the individual who actually wears that is reading, I'm not saying you look ridicules, but if I were you, I'd just slap the S#$! out of that costume once I took it off. It looks horrible.
I'll take the Catahoula or bullgator. A bulldog is out of the question for me... although I love bulldogs (As CajunMarineBBK stated, a bulldog is the Marine mascot)
Also, we have to be clear on what we are talking about. I went to the facebook page made, and some people were saying, "yeah, I support being called the "Ragin' Cajun Bulldogs" or saying "Geaux Bulldogs". We are not the UL Peppers, it's just the "MASCOT" we don't like, not our nickname. I believe we all agree that the "Ragin' Cajuns'" is the Nickname for UL. NO ONE WANTS TO CHANGE OUR NICKNAME!! As far as mascot (I can name plenty of colleges who's mascots and nickname are different). But I'd take almost anything over this Pepper mascot that looks like a pedophile at a playground. Sorry, it just looks ridicules!
im not saying i am for the pepper, but arent mascots supposed to look ridiculous, like the phillies mascot, or wku's big red whatever it is, or the stanford tree, if you watch the capitalone macot thing at bowl time, all the ones they choose look ridiculous. again im not saying i like the pepper, just posing a question
I joined the link but can we put a picture of the mascot as opposed to the pepper? I really don't mind the pepper on the back of a hat or on the uniform as long as it's small but the thing I really hate is the mascot! It looks down right ridiculous!
My vote is for the Bullgator simply because we actually have live gators on campus. Next would be the Catahoula I guess. However if the Chicken is an option it has my vote!
I'm almost dumb founded at the fact that no one thinks a crawfish is a good mascot.
Nationally you think South louisiana, you think Cajuns and Crawfish.
and whats not fierce about a crawfish. Claws, wiskers, jagged edges. RED.
No one has anything close to it. And everyone knows what it is
Who in the hell outside of Louisiana and alot of people inside know that a catahoula is the state dog and could recognize it as that. Talk about identity crisis. No wonder UL has never been on the national radar. They can't find us and don't know what to look for.
By the way Georgia and Tennessee both have costumed mascots aside from the animals.
I think the crawfish is so obvious for UL that no one wants to do it.
Let's put a fleur de lies in our logo because of our heritage. Obvious and good, but why the hell do we have to have orange flames on it. Everyone take a moment and look at the logo and picture it without the flames. It's great. not to busy and says what it needs to.
While Im at it. Could we drop the F'n " 'S " from louisiana. no other sports team in the world at any level uses it.
Ragin Jacob
How about a live Crawfish!!!!! Think how menacing a TV close-up would be. Then after the game we could boil and eat him!
I say let's talk about football!
We MUST NOT introduce anything else new as a mascot...we have already had WAY TOO MANY. We have had 4 different names and 3 different mascots already in our history. We need to pick something and stick to it for good. It was time for the University of Louisiana...finally we have a suitable name that truly represents what we stand for. Now for the visual representation for athletics: the mascot. I do agree that the pepper has not and will not live up to the billing. It has been around for several years now. How many people even know what it is? I do like the thinking-Cajuns are red hot and all...but it is time for a strong and traditional mascot. Hey! We already have one! The bulldog (named Ragin' Cajun) was and still is most appropriate. It is our original mascot. Agreed, it is not the most unique. But it is who we are. We have this rich tradition of being represented by a bulldog dating back a century...LET'S USE IT NOW!
The most pictured animal in UL literature for the past 100 years? . . .
#1 The BullGator
#2 The BullDog
Still, we are #1 nationally for school name changes, tied for #1 for athletic team name changes, and #1 for mascot changes...NOTHING ELSE NEW. Do we reall want to keep this up? I love the alligator idea! But nothing else new!
While I like the BullGator idea, I have never see it in photo's or articles about UL. Maybe a story or two about the gators in the swamp but....
Like I said I like the idea. I don't like bringing back the bulldog. It's LaTech's mascot and I want no comparison to that crappy school!
