We have two dogs, Male & Female and name them Roux & Blanc. Also don't want to get into the name thing but I back the UL name and I attended USL and I see it as the great H.F. Amiel would have seen it. Move forward not backward. There is nothing wrong with being fond of your history, but don't let it cloud your fore-thought. I like the pepper but would prefer the Catahoula. You had better ask LSU first or they will have senators pass a bill saying that it is illegal for any college to use the dog unless at least two want to do so!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
PS: Maybe we can build a Million dollar cage for them, HEHEHE______!!
I was in SGA and suggested two Bulldogs back in 92, naming one Ragin' and the other Cajun, the problem with this is if one Dog dies, then you will have a full grown dog and a pup. It would be too difficult to have both them them be grown Bulldogs at the same time. I am and have always been a fan of 1 bulldog named Ragin' Cajun like we had back in the early '90s
waterboy, we have a swamp on campus, hell I tell people that every game at UL is like the bourbon bowl. I've even seen a few that look like extras from that movie at our games. I think the catahoula is the best idea anyone has had in a while. I remember the bulldog after the old ragin cajun was lost to the ages, and he was a good dog but lots of schools have bulldogs, none that I can find have a catahoula.
Side note I don't htink that top picture is a full catahoula. I always thought they had to have the different color eyes, but its still a pretty dog and possibly my favorite breed ever even though my wife won't let me have another big dog
CatahoULa -State Dog would be a good mascot for THE Unversity of Louisiana. The same for the State Bird, the Pelican.
Someone also had a great idea about a Bullgator from the swamp on campus and had a great drawing displayed last year in a similar discussion. Seems like the 2 best options were the CatahoULa and the Bullgator. Can someone post the pictures/costumes that were posted back then?
And, let's not forget our tie-in to Tabasco. And, what about the fleur de lis?
Replace the orange, yellow black, white & red Wheel logo and use of Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns with a simple Louisiana Ragin Cajuns in red and white with black trim? We can also utilize the "L" shape of the state of Louisiana as a shadow on the U "L" to clearly distinguish who we are.
Use simple colors that are more distinctive and less expensive to duplicate and reflects the school colors instead of that rediculous Hot Wheel logo we now have. I've never seen Alabama's Crimson Tide or Florida's Gators used. Why do we use Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns? We plaster our field and stadium with Louisiana, why not use it instead.
Well yall have said enough for my to think we may have a smidgen of a shot. Please pass the info and lets get as many as we can.

I hate the M f'n pepper. I have sent very nice e-mails to both Scott Farmer and that idiot that was head of marketing (retired now or quit, whichever she is gone now) telling them that no one likes the pepper and our school colors are vermillion and white, not red/orange/yellow/black, but never got a response. That was 3 years ago. I did sit down with Scott Farmer last year to speak with him about this and other issues I had, and he basically agreed that the pepper needs to go and that the colors should be simplified back to vermillion and white (with a modest amount of black for uniforms as the players love black). However, he said that this was not at the top of his priority list, and I agree with him that raising money and putting a better product on all of the athletic fields is priority one. However, something needs to be done about these issues.
My personal vote is for the Bull Gator, but anything is better than what we have now.
Having a marketable product that generates revenue and helps create a better identity for the university should be a priority. Why can't this be addressed simultaneously with other issues? It appears to always be just one thing at a time and years go by before things like this are addressed.
I'd go with the Catahoula 100% Nice idea.
I hate when we get beat 55-7. I hate that we have had a bad defense for 20 years. I hate when we hire worthless coaches and keep them on till their contract runs out. The pepper? I have a hard time getting the hate meter going (I mean the actual pepper, not the abomination of a mascot).
