_ Look at UL's Marketing Staff and count the years of marketing experience they had before being hired for (or promoted to) their current position at UL. Jim Abbott could count them up on his right hand. The same could be said for the Event Management staff.

I was speaking to a couple guys on Saturday while tailgating, both in their 60s, one a UL Alum, the other a 30+ year Professor at UL. In a quick glance around us, we saw at least 4-5 different UL logo's (and that doesn't count the various garbage purchased from stores like Academy), and also noted it the various colors used.

It's time this University starts doing a little outsourcing to some people who know what they're doing. You've got to do the simple things right. _

If I remember correctly the Flaming Pepper (among the kindest of terms I've heard used to describe it) wa designed by a professional firm (from New York, I believe). I believe they also came up with the hot wheels logo and the pointy font used on the lettering for "Ragin Cajuns" and the uniform numbers. When the pepper and the uniform numbers were met with derision and calls for change I recall the response was that too large of an investment had been made to just drop it. It took some doing just to modify the numbering so that player numbers on the jerseys could be more easily identified. At least that is how I remember it. Maybe someone else can correct me or add more.

_ That is the state dog and your suggestion may have been one of the best that I have ever heard on this forum. Not only would it cement UL as a state school and not regional to have the state dog as the mascot but probably no other schools have that dog as a mascot.

I never had a problem with the old cajun mascot from the 80's even though he wasn't very politically correct, but it seem I heard a lot of the same discussion about him as I do about the pepper today, and I'm sure that any mascot would have similar discussion. Of course it could be worse hotty and toddy could be on our proposed mascot names _

I believe in our heritage, but i would be a very sad person if we change our mascot to a catahoula hound dog. I really think that would just make us a laughing stock rather than help our national reputation.

I do miss having the bulldog as a mascot and having him on the sideline. I still see people bring their bulldogs to tailgating and always like seeing that.

That is the exact reason I would say put it to a vote but one thing is for sure, no more pepper lol

I personally do not beleive making the catahoula hound dog would make us a laughing stock no more than it does for the state. When you read about the dog what better animal to represent the University of Louisiana. I like the bulldog hell I am a Marine but the Catahoula after reading the above post would be unique. The Vols use a hound dog and no one is laughing at them. Just let me know when the petition is out and I will be more than happy to add my signature.

I don't think it would be bad to use the Catahoula as long as you use it like the Vols. Don't plaster it accross our logos in any way. Just let it be out mascot. Stick with the interlocking UL and the "Ragin' Cajuns" logo.

Yea if the dog is on the sideline thats not a bad addition, I just cant see us having this on some sort of logo.

I mean being a Ragin Cajun and having a Hound Dog may make us sound uneducated and give us the "WaterBoy" effect lol and I just dont want it to come to that. Its hard enough to get any respect just cause of the conference we're in.

CajunNation I think Catahoula works great on paper but every one of those dogs has a different look, you will never be able to capture a visual image that says anything other than "dog"

It has to be able to be mascotized into a character and mascotized better than a pepper. The message can’t just say dog, it has to say Louisiana with little or no explanation and coon hunting don't cut it.

I wouldn't have a problem with a Catahoula as our mascot...in fact i'm surprised the douchers 50 miles east haven't tried to devise some way to filter in the dog with their cat eye mascot since it is the state dog and they are the state u.
Also i wouldn't have a problem distancing ourselves from a bulldog as a mascot since the nechsters up north still have that as their mascot. Whatever it may be , please get rid of the flaming pepper on steroids!
