Dumb idea to move hockey back to the Cajundome.

Most especially because it is a move that is at the expense of our hoops program. _

Whoa. Let's stop for a second.

Someone here suggested that perhaps the Sunday start times were because of hockey (and that was without any information) and now everyone is going nuts.

One of those Sundays is a doubleheader so I know hockey has nothing to do with it.

I've seen some animosity on both message boards about the shared use of the Cajundome. IceGator fans don't want have to have to schedule around UL. UL fans don't want to schedule around the IceGators.

Here I am caught in the middle.

Is this a smart move by the Icegators. I have to believe that operating out of Blackham Coliseum kept their costs much lower.

Running the Cajundome for an event is extremely expensive. What was the average paid attendance last year? Will this move bleed them dry?

Unfortunately, I think minor league hockey is a fad that has run is course in this area. I can't imagine they will be in the Cajundome long term. However, the scheduling inconvenience, and the nuisance of sharing in general has been mitigated greatly by the Basketball team having the indoor practice facility.

How will cost not be an issue?

Moving from building with lower costs to building with higher costs. That cuts into profits every time all the time.

Unless they were just pulling it in hand over fist at Blackham, I don't understand.

The benefits outweigh the drawbacks. That's all I was told. Probably a cheaper lease, they are only doing the bottom two sections of the dome, etc. The ownership group is smart enough to not risk it if it wouldnt have a decent chance of success.

Understandable but the basketball program should have priority scheduling over a new contractor as we are not going away!
