An 8 year old Opelousas girl is in stable condition, recovering from a gunshot wound sustained near her home. It happened near the intersection of Plantar Street and Railroad Avenue in Opelousas. Chief Perry Gallow says the girl was in the wrong place at the wrong time; hit by a stray bullet after an argument escalated between two men.

"One chose to pull out a weapon, not showing any consideration for what's on the other end, what the bullet could meet once discharged from his firearm," said Gallow.

The girl was about 100 yards away from where the gun was fired and was shot in the leg. One of the men was arrested, but police do not believe he is the shooter. Police are still investigating, working to determine the identity and location of the shooter.
