Thread: In 1973 who was deep throat?

  1. UL Basketball In 1973 who was deep throat?

I have heard two versions, I don't know which if either is correct. One version says is it was an unnamed assistant getting back at the head coach. The other say it was an attempt by the new president of the university to cut back on athletics and he was deep throat. Can anyone tell me the truth?

I always thought it was Linda Lovelace, but what the hell do I know?

Movie deep throat - Linda Lovelace

Political deep throat - Pat Buchanan

Athletic deep throat - pick any LSU fan in a 50 mile radius

I heard it was someone inside the university that turned in the coaches.

It was an assistant coach named Gavrick that did it as revenge for being fired, with good reason, by Shipley.

Thank you Kawlija that is what I wanted to know. I am aware the Delphi board is for Cajun fans only. Someday I might be one again. As a Prospero member I found the Delphi affiliate link a few years ago, excited to find a UL board I thought I would get an old old question answered. I asked this very same question and without so much as an explanation I was promptly banned from ever posting or replying again.

Now that Mark Felt has come clean, Gavrick needs to exposed as USL's deep throat. There is no reason Shipley should be kept out of the hall of fame for something Gavrick did.

This was before my time as a UL fan. Is this related to the basketball program being banned for a couple of years?

Yes the once and probably forevermore one and only example of an NCAA imposed basketball death penalty.

Actually, it had been used before us in the early 50's (I believe). Kentucky, of all schools, got jolted back then. Would they shut down a Kentucky today? HA! Fat chance with all the revenue these caliber schools bring in.
