Actually, it had been used before us in the early 50's (I believe). Kentucky, of all schools, got jolted back then. Would they shut down a Kentucky today? HA! Fat chance with all the revenue these caliber schools bring in.

It seems the difference was the NCAA didn't actually kill the Kentucky program UK got to keep their players. The NCAA did was tell member schools to shun Kentucky (not to play Kentucky) the nobrainer decision to suspend play was made by the school.

I think Kentucky even kept their coach. Does anyone know for sure?

The details aren't important. Tulane and Boston College fell on their own swords due to basketball scandals far more serious than what got us the penalty.
