Lafayette, LA --- Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel announced the details of a "Community Pride" Neighborhood Clean-Up Day during a Wednesday news conference at Lafayette City Hall.

The Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 16th, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents of the City and unincorporated areas of the Parish can drop off items at five locations throughout Lafayette. The drop off areas will be at the following locations:

The Heymann Center (1373 South College Road)
The Robicheaux Center (Neyland Park) (1919 Eraste Landry Road)
Fabacher Field (221 La Neuville Road)
Judice Park (500 Golden Grain Road, Duson, LA)
Pa Davis Park (120 Dawn Street)

The event is a partnership between the Lafayette Consolidated Government Community Development Department, Human Services Division, Allied Waste, University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Sheriff Mike Neustrom and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office.

Allied Waste will provide a Roll-Off Container and a garbage truck at each location. In addition to the drop off sites, University of Louisiana at Lafayette will have 500 freshmen volunteers canvassed around streets and neighborhoods assisting in picking up items. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette volunteers are part of the Cajun Connection program. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office will have inmate labor assisting as well.

"This is an excellent partnership that will show great Community Pride and give residents an opportunity to dispose of anything that they have been holding on to for a while. We encourage neighborhoods to join together and assist in making our community cleaner and more beautiful," said Durel.

The only items that will not be accepted are hazardous materials, batteries, paint, and tires.
