Bid surprises Gamecocks
USC to face Louisiana-Lafayette in first round of NCAA regional after disappointing season
South Carolina’s softball team did not get together to watch Sunday’s televised selection show for the NCAA Tournament. For the first time in a long time, the Gamecocks were not certain such a gathering would have a happy ending.
But the selection committee extended USC an at-large bid despite a 27-22 record that ranks as the worst in coach Joyce Compton’s 18 years at the school.
The berth was USC’s sixth in a row and 14th overall.
