The Humane Society of the United States and
SpayNation for Dogs & Cats are providing free rabies vaccinations for cats and dogs from
1:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2010. This event is being held at Lafayette Jockey
Lot (next to Hub City Ford) at 3011 NW Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette.
Low cost spay/neuter certificates, while supplies last, will also be distributed at the event.
More than 92,000 homeless pets are put down every year in Louisiana animal shelters. Currently
SpayNation provides discounted spay/neuter services for dogs and cats at their center located at
1640 North Bertrand Drive in Lafayette. The HSUS has supported the facility with an
infrastructure grant and advertising to promote the services.
"We are very excited to support SpayNation in their mission to deliver affordable spay/neuter
services to the community" said Amanda Arrington, manager of The HSUS' spay/neuter
initiatives. "They join other clinics across Mississippi and Louisiana as part of our Gulf Coast
Spay Neuter Campaign, creating much needed services in a region in desperate need of reducing
shelter intake and euthanasia numbers."
Free rabies vaccinations, while supplies last, will be available to all cats and dogs attending the
event. Cats must be in a pet carrier; dogs must be in a pet carrier or on a secure leash. All
animals must be at least 12 weeks of age.
