Scientists and FDA officials are trying to put the message out that gulf seafood is safe to eat and if you don't believe it, try smelling the food.
Experts in the field of seafood testing have assembled in New Orleans to show KATC that people can actually smell oil tainted food. To make their point, they have tainted a few samples of shrimp with crude from the Deep Water Horizon site.
In labs and processing plants, the tests are a bit more sophisticated, but even without the chemicals and the gear, when you boil it down: your nose will know if there's oil in your food.
