Tracking the Pro Career of Hall Davis

  It appears that former UL defensive end Hall Davis has earned an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. This unofficial list also has his name on it. The Combine is Feb. 24-March 2.

Really it shouldn't be that much of a surprise. The 6-foot-5, 272-pound defensive end - who played receiver and safety at Port Allen High School - has received plenty of attention from pro scouts. He is big, strong, athletic and able to rush the passer and drop back into coverage. As a senior he tied for the team lead with 3.0 sacks and added 22 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and two quarterback hurries.

From what I've heard, every NFL team has scouted Davis, who has already committed to play in the Fourth Annual Texas vs. the Nation all-star bowl on Feb. 6 in El Paso, Texas. At least three teams sent their general managers out to cross-check him in the fall.

The NFL Scouting Combine starts Wednesday and runs through March 2 in Indianapolis.


Former UL defensive end Hall Davis is scheduled to compete in the event, although he told me on Monday night that he won't participate until Friday. Look for a story with more on his progress later in the week. (Don't want to throw something together now and have it get buried.)


The school released a brief rundown on Davis earlier today. I spoke with ESPN/Scouts Inc. draft expert Todd McShay a few weeks ago, and he expects a strong performance from Davis at the combine.

Hall arrived in Indy about an hour ago. Good news given the weather issues across the country.

Although he did not have great statistics Hall has what the pros can't teach with ideal size, and he can move pretty good. The fact he played a skilled position in HS and played basketball will help with the skill events. I think his bench press # and shuttle drill will be the most important #'s the scouts will be looking at.

He passes the eye test.

Its amazing that guys can be fairly unproductive at the Sunbelt level and be valued at the next.

Just goes to show you the value of measurables at that level..

There's outliers in both directions. Tommie Frazier and Tyrell Fenroy being on the other end of the bell curve.

  For Hall Davis, the most important job interview of his young life started Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and continues until Monday.

Davis, a former defensive end at UL, flew into Indianapolis early Friday. Upon his arrival, he faced countless questions and tests on and off the field in front of coaches, scouts and medical personnel from every NFL team.

On Monday, he will compete in a series of workouts at Lucas Oil Field that will test his speed, flexibility and agility. His performance will play a big role in where he might be picked in April's NFL draft.

It looks like davis may not be helping himself much at the combine. He ran the 40 in the 4.8+ range and only 28 reps in the bench press. he was expecting to run in the 4.5-4.6 range with 35 reps. Hopefully he can help himself out in some of the shuttle drills and hope for a strong pro-day on campus to help himself out

You are right in that the NFL puts a ton of weight on the combine and how you do or don't do in it. But it still is a bit funny that a lineman might be okay if he ran a 40-yard dash in 4.6... but not if he did it in 4.8. That probably represents a 2 foot difference. Especially funny when you consider that he will never run an open 40 in a game.

But, unfortunately, that a tool they use to evaluate.

Davis needed a good combine because he did not have a very productive college career. I do agree with you on the 40 stuff. I have no idea how that is an important measurable.
