Thread: Fans have power at Cajun Field

  1. UL Football Fans have power at Cajun Field

Can it be 40 years now?

It can't be. If it is, then age is no longer my ally.

I was a UL freshman in 1971 and was on hand when the UL Ragin' Cajuns hosted Santa Clara in the first football game at Cajun Field.

Coach Russ Faulkinberry's program was coming off a 26-25 loss to Tennessee State in the 1970 Grantland Rice Bowl, and the Cajuns were moving into a new 31,000-seat facility. It seemed like a fitting way to follow up a bowl.

Not to age myself, but I volunteered as an usher at the first Cajun Field game in 1971. It was a Boy Scout project.

Now I am old. Class of '58. I remember walking my dad across the field after the Grantland Rice Bowl to the parking lot. I can still remember him saying, "boy those guys a big". (Tenn. State) They had about 7-8 players moving up to the NFL.

And to think I felt old. Been going to games since around '93 when Cody started and Jeff was a sophmore. The Cahuns need to get to a bowl so I can get rid of some of this gray hair. 27 is too young for salt and peppery.
