Thread: The Glenn Cyprien File ...

  1. UL Basketball U Louisiana has a winner

I am a Rickey Broussard supporter always will be, but let me tell you UL has found a winner in Glynn Cyprien. I heard the press conference, BARELY, and I heard the guy on Birds Eye View. He is taking U Louisiana to new heights. I am now a Glynn Cyprien supporter as well.

Many people will be Coach Cyprien supporters. All it takes is a nice winning streak and another conference championship and people will be praising him like they supposedly had been all along.

"You can not be serious. For three weeks Coach Lee has been telling everyone that he is the right person for the head coaching job...he is better than the administration's choice - Coach Cyprien. He has blamed all that went wrong for the last 5 years on Jesse and taken credit for all that went right.

Does that sound like someone that a Coach would hire in his first head coaching position?"

Vatican, I don't recall coach Lee stating anything negative about Jessie Evans. You should only talk about what you know or think you know. And, yes coach Cyprien is talking to coach Lee about the possibilty of him staying on. Nothing written in stone.

I guess I will apologize, because it certainly seemed as though most of the posts - most specifially the one entitled "coach" were written by Lee or ghost-written for him. Items a-m all seem to outline my point. Also, my sources within the athletic department have confirmed that despite the fact he had the interim tag, he had been responsible for not completing the schedule (need 4-6 games still) he had signed a junior college player who needed at least 12 hours in the summer to graduate, he had allowed a player to leave the team, and had promised to other college coaches that if he did not get the job or stay at ULL - he would make sure the recent signees and the junior college player who visited this weekend would go elsewhere under his direction.

The kool-aid that you drink was mixed by Coach Lee, and you seemed to have overdosed.

We all had our favorites in the search, but despite the fact that neither of ours was selected - I will always be for the good of the program. I want to see a difference and changing the whole staff is part of that...although if I had my druthers I would like to see Bobby Champagne return.

    Lets move on. Geaux Cajuns.

Vatican, all you have to do is talk to coach Lee if you have doubts about who had the last word in the basketball program. Head coaches delegate duties to assistants, but the final decisions on scheduling(policies),redshirting, scholarships and recruiting areas are decided by head coaches. I have never heard coach Lee blame Jessie for anything, but he did state what he would do different if he was named head coach. I only posted what he stated and to give people the opportunity to decide for themselves what they think of his plans. I think thats only fair. But it's not information that any local media would give you. You can either read it here or go and ask for yourself. I don't always post what I'm told because it gives ammo to people that really don't care about this program.

I will also tell you that I did indeed attend the news conference today and asked Nelson in person the questions I had in regards to coach Cyprien. I believe I was given the answers that I wanted to hear about Coach Cyprien and believe he is a good choice. This board gives you and I the opportunity to discuss concerns or raise questions about events in the Cajun program. But given the opportunity to ask the question in person, I received an answer. I would invite you and others to go down visit with coaches and Nelson when you can, ask questions. You will find that you will most probably get some answers.

  9. UL Basketball Cajuns make it official

LOUISIANA La. — Glynn Cyprien understands his mission.

Louisiana's new men’s head basketball coach expects to lead a program that wins at the highest levels, as well as one whose players are as productive in the classroom as they are on the court.

And he’s primed to start that process.

“I’m glad to be here,” said Cyprien, who was introduced as the Ragin’ Cajuns’ new coach on Wednesday at the Cajundome.

“This is a special situation for me and my family. I just want to get going. I really feel like I’m prepared for this situation. Seventeen years as an assistant will do that.”

Cyprien’s first order of business, aside from throwing out the first pitch in Wednesday night’s UL-Southeastern Louisiana baseball game, is to meet with current Cajun players.

“We will be disciplined, on and off the floor,” Cyprien said. “Going to class every day will be emphasized. The players will be where they need to be every day. I assure you we will graduate players and get them out of here.

“I will have heart-to-heart meetings with each of them, either tonight or tomorrow. They need to know what things are important to me. I’ve spoken with Kristi (Stake), the academic advisor. She’s my new best friend.

“I’ve got to reach out to the players, to tell them how important it is to finish the semester strong. With the new NCAA regulations, we’ve got to stress academics, and that’s got to come from the top. They’ve got to know how important it is to us.

“I’m going to make sure I lean on Kristi. I want guys to graduate, but I also want to help them be a success in the community.”

Winning games wasn’t a problem under Jessie Evans, who left UL for the University of San Francisco after earning two NCAA Tournament berths and a pair of NIT bids in his seven years with the Cajuns. But academic difficulties clouded player availability in recent years.

“The thing that impressed me about Glynn is his commitment to academics and to the performance of students in the classroom,” said UL President Dr. Ray Authement. “He will do well with the faculty and staff. I know he’s sincere in his desire for the players to get their degrees.”

Cyprien, who was given a five-year contract at roughly $160,000 per year, was most recently with Oklahoma State at the Final Four in San Antonio. But he also has coached at Texas-San Antonio, Lamar, Jacksonville, UNLV and Western Kentucky.

“He has been at schools with less money than we have, and those with many, many more dollars to spend,” Authement said. “So, he understands the different levels. But, he’s also willing to work to improve that, and we will.”

What is up with your use of ULL? Get it right "IF" you are really a UL fan???

    DaddyCajun!!!!

  11. UL Basketball I have a feeling coach Cyprien will well accepted.

Two converse polls kind of say coach Cyprien will be well accepted by fans of the University of Louisiana.

In the "next coach should be" poll, (among registered poll participants) there was a high number whose choice was to go national in the coaching search. In fact it was almost as high as the number who had a favorite among the previously known favorites.

In the "Who do you not want to see" coaches’ poll, coach Cyprien had the lowest negatives of any choice. For the others, while some applicants were definite favorites, they also had equal or higher negatives as well.

If you combine the results of the two polls, the case can be made that coach Cyprien was the fan favorite even before Dr. Authement made his choice.

I guess it’s one of the advantages of being a less known quantity with high credentials. I expect a nice honeymoon period for coach Cyprien.

I listened to Jay interview coach Cyp yesterday and I must say that I am impressed. He said the right things and sounds like he will be involved in the community. I believe he also said that he had already lined up another recruit. I'm on board.
