Thread: Which conference will be stronger in 5 years

  1. Default

Simple question: Which conference will be stronger and more respected in 5 years

  2. I have a Question Which conference will be stronger in 5 years

Personally, I am not worried if we stay in the SunBelt, in a few years it will be a strong league.

In fact it will be a league with one of the countries more "player coveted" bowl tie-ins.

IF Tech stays in the WAC the two conferences will be equal but Tech will be weaker. If Tech comes to the Sunbelt the Sunbelt will be stronger and Tech will be stronger. I don't think they can afford not to come to the Sunbelt. I vote Sunbelt

    (JMO) SunBelt in 5 years.

With so many former members in CUSA I'm not saying the SunBelt is an excersise in stability, but I think the WAC is the most unstable league ever.

With UTEP leaving, 13 schools have left the WAC in the last six years. If I am not mistaken more schools have left the WAC in the last 6 years than any single conference now claims as their own.

How Tech would want to stay there is doubtful, and with the WAC's track record it sure makes the SunBelt look like an excersise in stability.

How Northe Texas would desire WAC membership is more doubtful still.

Goofball post for sure. I don't know a single Ragin' Cajun fan who is a fan of the Sunbelt.

After watching the way the Belt has played its cards over the past few years, im starting to become a Sun Belt fan.

  8. UL Football

If it wasn't for N Texas every team has had a losing record every year since the start of the Sun Belt. the sun belt is the weakest conferance in 1-a. UL should do everything in its power to get the hell out of the Sun Belt if it wants respect from the rest of the country

Everyone in here wants the sun belt to be on a higher leval than it really is. It will take the addition of 3 to 4 quality teams to turn this into a legit conferance. And if North Texas bails, the sun Belt will be nothing but a JOKE in 1-a football.

Bud, UNT won't be bolting for the WAC, and neither will UL. Yes, the WAC is leaps and bounds over the Sun Belt in football right now, but the problem with the WAC is that it is very unstable. And at this point in time, stability is the name of the game. Thats why the Sun Belt has added teams like FIU and FAU. Not because they are great athletically, but because they will create a more stable confrence. About 4 months ago I read where a sports analyst said that the WAC and C-USA would lose the most in this conf. reallignment, and the Belt would gain the most. I laughed out loud when I heard that, but it has turned out to be very true. UL is in a very good position rightn now, because it is in the Belt.

Keep in mind that everything that is being done right now is being done so that 4-5 yrs from now when the second round of re-allignemnts kick up UL will be in the best position to get into C-USA.

BTW, I noticed it was your first post. Welcome to the board.

Maybe not in football now but the SunBelt is strong & competitive in other sports.

Football is behind, but top to bottom - Sun Belt is the winner in 5 years.

The addition of the Fla schools & Troy certainly add to stability, but also create a larger area of interest while staying in a geographical area that makes sense. I attended every away game last year which was tough. This year's schedule will be a little easier in that regard, but CUSA & WAC have to do this every year. UL will now get exposure in the talent & population rich Fla markets, which will be an asset in recruiting. These large schools will most likely be very competitve in the coming years. Troy while small has an established athletic program with a history of success.
