As part of the City of New Iberia's Sewer Improvements, CES will begin smoke testing on
a portion of the sewer system on Thursday, August 26th.
These tests will take approximately two
business days and will occur between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm.
The following streets will be included in the test:
Hortense Street, Johnson Alley, Rosier Street, Henry Street, Indest Street, Front Street, Miller
Lane and Helen Drive.
Residents in these areas were notified on August 17th via hand-bill placed on their front doors.
Any smoke that residents may see coming from vents, manholes or holes in the ground is NON TOXIC and creates NO FIRE HAZARD. Smoke should not enter
homes. If smoke does enter a home, the resident should open doors and windows to ventilate the house, and leave the premises until the smoke dissipates.
Smoke entering a home usually indicates a leak in the household plumbing, However, dry sewer traps
may allow smoke to enter through drains.
To eliminate this problem, residents should
run water into all drains regularly to prevent traps from drying out.
Pictures will be taken of the smoke testing and cooperation by the residents is greatly
appreciated.
Results of the testing help identify defects in both public and private sewer lines.
