There are easier things in life than being Angie Scharnhorst this weekend.

On Friday morning, Scharnhorst was the assistant softball coach at North Texas. By lunch time, she was the interim head coach, following the sudden resignation of Stacey Segal.

UNT is 16-46 in its first year of softball since 1988, including 1-7 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Scharnhorst’s first assignment is a four-game weekend series at home against the only softball champion the Sun Belt has ever had — UL Lafayette’s Ragin’ Cajuns.

UL went to the College World Series in 2003 and is ranked No. 7 in the nation, so the Mean Green’s task was already daunting. Now the twin doubleheaders will be faced after a coaching change.

Cajun coach Stefni Lotief has her own hurdles to overcome, however, after her team (41-6, 7-0) lost back-to-back games for the first time this season on Wednesday.
