The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office released a motive behind the shooting death on Webb Street.
Investigators say after conducting interviews, the evidence suggests that Randal Doucet, 29, came to the residence on Webb Street armed with a large pipe wrench. Authorities said he entered the house without permission and began a search for the home owner who he had a dispute with. Several people in the residence attempted to stop Doucet but where unsuccessful. The homeowner retreated to a rear bedroom closet in an attempt to hide but was discovered by Doucet.
The homeowner then armed himself with a 410 shotgun and was confronted again by Doucet with the pipe wrench in the hallway. The homeowner shot Randal Doucet in the torso and then fled from the house around 9:50pm Thursday.
Detectives have not filed any charges in the case and will forward all information to the District Attorney's Office for final review.
