LOUISIANA Là — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning, spoiling a stellar pitching performance from UL Lafayette’s Holly Tankersley to post a 2-1 win in the nightcap of the two team’s doubleheader here Wednesday evening at Lady Cajuns Softball Park.

Earlier in the day, the Islanders used a 10-strikeout performance by Sarah Pauly to snap the Cajuns 13-game winning streak in a 3-0 win.

Tankersley, making her first start in the pitching circle since Feb. 29, struck out six and gave up just two hits over seven innings. The true freshman from Kirbyville, Texas, who is also the team’s leader in home runs, held the Islanders to just two infield singles.

However, two fielding errors in the infield in the sixth inning by the No. 7-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns (41-6) led to two runs for the opportunistic Islanders and made the difference.

With the win, Texas A&M-C.C. (34-19) extended its win streak to 12 games and completed the twinbill sweep of the hosts. No. 7 UL Lafayette suffers its first losing streak.

That just goes to show what having Brooke means to this team. That is a huge upset, especially being swept. :-(

No doubt! As of right now Brooke is irreplacable.

However last night I think the Lady Cajuns face a pretty good pitcher, scoring 1 run in two games will not win many.

On the flip side Louisinana's young pitchers did pretty good in holding the opponent to 3 and 2 runs respectivly. In fact that kind of pitching would have either won or sent games into extra innings 32 times this year.

5 of Louisiana's 6 losses have come in 0 run help games, but here is where a Brooke Mitchell type game comes in, something like 16 of the wins came with the bats producing 3 runs or less.

No hitting was the problem. Fielding errors also did not help. The lack of hitting is coming home to roost. At the moment, I believe, we only have one Lady Cajun hitting over .300. The statistics posted by the Advertiser idicated that Hobbit and Tankersley pitched well. Just weak hitting and fielding errors did us in. Don't know when Mitchell will return. She has a fractured eye socket, which will not require surgery, but to say that she will be able to return this season might be wishful thinking.
