I'll have to buy the latest edition. I've got a nickle that USN&WR has gone to strictly a two-tier system for National Universities.

They had to, they combined Tier 1 & Tier 2 into Tier 1, but still had Tier 3 & 4. So for the past few years there was no Tier 2.

Where does that put a school like ULM? At least LA Tech can't claim to be Tier 2 while we are Tier 3. Seems like we are the same level academically, although we certainly are way ahead of them in two significant areas, research and endowment.

I'm pretty sure that is the case. Tier 1 was top 50%, then 3 was 50-75 and 4 was 75-100% in the past.

It would seem to be that its combined into 1 and 2. Any schools not listed didnt make the cut to get reviewed, whatever those criteria may be.

I prefer the annual college listing in Forbes to USNWR's listing... and not just because we're listed higher in Forbes's listing than any other school in the state. The methodology used by Forbes to create their rankings measures how much value a student gets out of the 4 years they attend an institution. Thus, I think's it's a much better way to compare different schools.

Well, yes, but that's an economic/efficiency ranking, not an overall quality ranking I believe. Just for example, some Ivy league school may cost 10x more and still be a higher ranked school in all categories, but may not be as high as UL in the Forbes listing. Doesnt mean its not a better school. But really "better" can mean quite a few things.

That's why there's so many different lists I guess.
