Good article on Masson. Does the print version carry a football picture of him? The on-line version does not. And, if it is in the print version, why not on the on-line version? The Advocate does that each day with an LSU football picture. The Austin American-Stateman does it everyday with a UT football picture. Seems like a picture each day with each article would help excite the reader and general fan about UL football. Just a personal suggestion.

Since the focus of the article is Masson that is a bit of an 'off topic' stat simply because the coaches often put the success of the team in the hands of Brad McGuire when they got into the Red Zone.

Counting running and throwing TD's Masson personally scored once ever 27.2 touches while McGuire scored once every 7.4 times he had his hands on the ball.

Besides the quarterbacks there were only 5 other rushing TDs the whole year.

I'm not totally sure on this, but I think he reportedly showed up to camp at 211 this year, not last fall. Anyway, I think Chris has the potential to improve upon last years performance. I hope he does, for all of our sake.

The only photo of Masson in the print edition is a mug shot. You must understand that story placement largely dictates whether any visual element runs with a story. The Masson story was stripped across the top of the front page, so there was only room for a mug out front. The rest of the story jumped to an inside page and was spread over two columns, again leaving little - if any room - for an actual photo. And in all honesty, more of the DA readers care about live art from the Saints-Patriots game (that story was the centerpiece on the front) than a practice shot or file photo of Masson.

Can't speak to what the Advocate and American-Statesman do with their sections. Both of those newspapers have many, many, many more resources than the DA does, both in the sports department and in terms of available photographers. If it was up to me, we would have color photos of Cajun athletes every day, but the final photo decisions are out of my hands.

Agreed, which is why I find the redzone percentage slightly off topic.

Turbine, a couple of things to consider:

Masson accounted for 16 touchdowns last season (10 in the air, six rushing). Of those 16 TDs, 12 came in the red zone.

McGuire accounted for nine TDs (seven rushing, two passing). Eight of his TDs came in the red zone.

So of UL's 27 TDs in the red zone last season, Masson with 12 and McGuire with eight. Masson obviously played a big role in the team's success in the red zone last year.

Big role I agree, I don't discount his effectiveness, however 12 of 33 (total TDs) is pretty far from the 89% (semi credited to Masson) which is why the comment jumped out at me.
