Louisiana travels to Natchitoches to face Northwestern State Sunday at 2 p.m.

Louisiana La. - Building on a strong performance against Louisiana Tech on Friday, Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns tennis continued their prowess, defeating Nicholls State in impressive fashion 5-0 Saturday morning here at the Cajun Courts.

The win is the second in a row for the Lady Cajuns (6-11). With the loss, Nicholls State (0-11) remains winless on the season.

In doubles, freshmen Kimmie Lyles and Cecilia Varela dominated Nicholls State’s Veronika Ramirez and Shamra Gray, winning 8-0 at the No. 1 spot. Susan Linden and Thais Bortoletto crushed Jordan Vaccarella and Ashley Hooper 8-0 at the No. 3 spot to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, Linden knocked off Robichoux 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 position, while Varela shut out her opponent as well 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 slot. Lyles needed just two sets to defeat Monique Savoy 6-0, 6-1.

Sophie Cerbon was up 4-0 on Jordan Vaccarella before Nicholls State defaulted, giving the Cajuns the 5-0 victory.

“We took care of business today,” UL Lafayette assistant coach Lisa Jackson said. “The girls have been focused in practice all week and it is paying off.”

Louisiana-Lafayette travels to Natchitoches Sunday to face Northwestern State at 12 p.m. Then, next week, the Ragin’ Cajuns will close out the regular season with a 2 p.m. match against Lamar in Beaumont, Texas, on April 18.
