Thread: Interest in Jessie

I don't think Butch Pierre is a polished candidate just yet. Besides, he is rumored to be next in line in BR after next seasnon when jack_____ Brady gets canned! Either that or Tim Floyd will take over after he gets canned from the Hornets. I am all for Rickey Broussard coming to Lafayette. Talk about more boosters coming out of the woodwork if that happens! He is a very good people person and I think he will run a clean program! Let's wish Jesse well in his next endeavor and move one to BETTER & BRIGHTER DAYS!! Besides, we all knew from the get go that Jesse wouldn't be here long anyway. I'm totally surprised he stayed this long. However, it's time for him to move on. This BB program is becoming a mockery for academics under his regime!

    What turmoil???

Why are you so sure the boosters would support a team led by Broussard as a opposed to Jesse?

Look at ALL that has happened in recent years with the BB team relative to academics, kids getting kicked off of the team, etc. I know stuff like that goes on all over the country, but it has become a huge problem here at ULL. Trust me on this one! The boosters WILL come out more so then ever before if Rickey comes to Lafayette. He is after all a "home boy"! IT IS TIME FOR JESSE TO GO. We need discipline and better academics on Lafayette's team! Aren't you tired of winning during the regular season, then getting kicked in the face in post season? Is it due to playing weak competition? Is it due to not having the quality players on the team? I don't know either, but I think it can be better! Rickey would do a much better job relative to recruiting good character, ALREADY QUALIFIED kids to sign on in Lafayette. I am tired of seeing a game where all that goes on is "fun & gun", unorganized, you know what type of mess! We shall see!

I could go either way. I am happy at what Evans has been able to accomplish, however I am just as disappointed at the academic problems that have plauged this program since his arrival. I DO think academic problems are the responsibility of the players; and no one else is responsible for that. With that being said, I also believe that a poor academic team with important players being kicked off of the team at a regular rate reflects very poorly on the coaching staff, especially Evans. I think it has a lot to do with the type of players we recruit in addition to the coaching staff not "getting on players" from day one about academics. I hate to see Evans go, but if he does, I only hope that we can find someone to build on what Evans has accomplished athletically while replacing what Evans lacks from the disciplinary side, most importantly the emphasis on academics.

Earl, you and I have had this discussion on Jesse not being a disciplinarian, players not going to class, etc. So it is no need to go over plowed ground. I get concerned when the talk is all about Ricky Broussard being the next head coach, and how he is going to take us to the promised land, that he is a home boy and the fans will support him, that he will recruit super talent that have character, and these players will not falter academically. This is all wishful thinking! As for me if Jesse Evans leaves, he leaves and I wish him luck and good fortune. When, and if, we go looking for a new coach I hope we do it on a national level. Not limit ourselves to someone who coached an area high school, had a little success at Nichols, and wound up as an asst coach at an sec team that had more problems than Carter has liver pills. I might add that whoever ends up being our coach I will support him as I have every coach from Bobby Paschal to Jesse Evans.

Don't count Ricky out.....He's not the same guy that some of us remember coaching at STM years ago. He's well seasoned now having been an asst at UL, then at South Florida, head coach at Nichols going to the NCAA twice (just like Jessee), then LSU. I wouldn't mind seeing him come here and maybe bring Butch Pierre with him......That makes me grin.....

Why are you concerned about so much talk about Rickey Broussard? Doesn't it seem logical that if so many people are excited about the possibility of getting Rickey that he might just be the best man for the job! Look at the most sucessful progams at UL and see where the coaches came from. (Roby is from I believe Crowley and didn't he coach at Ryan Street High School(AKA< McNeese from the Southland Conference) where Rickey also coached Nicholls to two NCAA appearances. All this with a high school gym to recruit from. Isn't Yvette Girouard from Broussard and went to Comeaux High School? Lotief went to Northside high school and he is doing pretty good for a local guy. National search is what got us Marty and Jesse, it's time for a local boy in basketball, and by the way one that can flat out coach. That's what I'm excited about!

I'm a Lafayette High guy, but a few years ago we enrolled my oldest daughter at STM. The open house looked like a Lafayette High reunion from the 70's. Seems like most of the people that I went to school with put their kids in STM. It ain't cheap, but I see the results in my kids every day. Athletically, you'll always see the kids coming out of STM with good grades and discipline. Recruiting wise, we should hit STM & Teurlings hard every year. Yes, I have STM-itis!!
