After watching some practices, it's clear we will see McGuire at RB, WR, FB/H-Back and Wildcat QB this year - maybe even more. Plus he's up to 225 - bigger than Desormeaux as a senior.

Gautier will see action at QB and possibly returning kicks.

so we may see 3 different QBs on the field in a game? Masson, McGuire playing Wildcat and now Gautier will get some action at QB? Is it just me or is that too much?

I've like all the guys but having multiple QBs playing could hurt an offense just as much as it could help us. just my opinion

Yeah, but they would not all be playing QB necessarily. If McGuire is lined up as H-back, he won't be passing the ball. He's talking about getting Gautier possibly returning kicks or punts to take advantage of his athleticism while McGuire has good athleticism as well and leadership and should be on the field as much as possible. They would't all necessarily be playing QB though.

I understand that. but i also read that McGuire would be a wildcat QB at times which would be fine. And i also saw that Gautier will "see some time at QB and return kicks." So that means 3 different guys are taking the snap during a game. I just think that is too much. But don't get me wrong, I'm definitely all for getting all of these guys on the field in some way though.

It doesn't mean that each would see time at QB in every game or even the majority of games. But, with Brad, you aren't really talking about another QB now. You are talking about a very versatile athlete. He can line up in the backfield, in the wildcat, and be a real pain in the ass to the opposing defenses in a multitude of ways.

If I thought this was an attempt at simply appeasing these 3 guys... and having a 3-way rotisserie QB system... I would join you. But, this is not the case. We are taking advantage of 3 athletes' skills, with a clear mission to have a primary QB.

I'm not sure why we need Gautier returning kicks, but I take it to mean he is one of the best available options. It is only natural for the coaches to be talking (in fall practice) about both Chris and Blaine getting QB time. And, even with a clear starter, the backup is going to get some time in our system. It may even be a planned situational thing like Brad did for us last year. Overall, I just don't see an issue (yet).

If it was Miller taking the snap as the "wildcat QB" would you be worrying about 3 different QB's taking a snap in the game? McGuire is not a QB right now he is an athlete that will be playing multiple positions to help us win. When he is in the wildcat position he is not necessarily a QB but only an athlete that we are using to take advantage of mismatches.

you dont think they will have brad throw the ball in the Wildcat? With miller, he would ALWAYS run. Brad will probably throw every now and then. I'm fine with having a designated QB and someone to come in to do the wildcat. What concerns me is when we add Blaine in the mix AT QB(not talking about returning kicks). My concern isnt about Brad and chris both taking snaps. it's having those 2 doing their thing then adding blaine at QB. Then we have a 2-QB rotation AND a wildcat QB. it just sounds like a bit much IMO. But maybe if blaine just sparingly came in it would be fine. but later in the season, if chris starts to struggle a little, and gautier starts looking good(kind of how last season where chris was struggling and brad came in and played great) then maybe gautier starts playing more and then him and masson start splitting time. then we may have a problem.

Who knows...I don't remember him throwing a pass out of that position last year.just because McGuire is in at wildcat doesn't mean Chris won't be on the field. A lot of time out of those formations the QB will line up wide so maybe McGuire throws it back to Chris...lot of different possibilities. I want to win I don't care who is on the field.

Agreed. Like i said, Brad being lining up in the wildcat isnt the thing that worries me. but above all, no matter how we do it, i want to win too.
