NATCHITOCHES — Brooke Mitchell was her usual masterful self here on Wednesday, baffling the Northwestern State Demons all evening as Louisiana scored a 2-0, 8-0 doubleheader sweep.
Mitchell worked 11 2/3 innings, allowing three hits, three walks, hitting a pair of batters and striking out 26 Demons as she improved to 26-3 on the season for the Ragin’ Cajuns.
Still, it would surprise NSU fans to know that she still saw room for improvement after UL ran its record to to 32-4.
“It’s been better for me,” said Mitchell, who now has 788 career strikeouts in her chase of all-time leader Kyla Hall’s 820.
“But, everything was good. We got it done, and got the wins.”
The Cajuns were allowed the luxury of getting freshman Heather Bobbitt some work in the nightcap, and she survived a bases-loaded scare in the sixth inning to complete the run-rule victory.
“Brooke was beaming when Heather got in there,” coach Stefni Lotief said. “Everyone on the team likes Heather and wants her to do well.”
