I think there is only one reason a coach should not give a release. The player transfers to another conference school and it is for play/competitive reasons only.
Otherwise let the player go. Life is bigger and if your a coach on the short end of the stick and this becomes critical to your way of thinking its time to go find a mirror and have a long conversation with the person looking back at you.
yeah but we aren't in the SEC so she needs to let it go.
Your right though. The writing is on the wall. There is no easy way out on this one. One of the SEC softball powerhouses is scared of letting a player go to an SBC school? Humm might have to rethink that powerhouse thing.
Trust me... Yvette has felt threatened for several years by what she now KNOWS is a superior program. It must really suck now to be her!!

To be honest, I don't really think much about the situation at all. The student is enrolled at UL, she wants to play ball here. She will be able to do so, whether she begins doing so this season or next season. So the issue is not with her.
Is Yvette doing something wrong? Morally, maybe, legally, no. She's following the rules of the association, but she has the right to allow the player to play next season. I can see Yvette's reasoning behind her actions. Hollier leaves without giving Yvette a chance to recruit her replacement. Why should she give another team the benefit of a player if she can't get equal opportunity? Now if Hollier let Yvette know far enough in advance that she wanted to leave, and Yvette is still being hard nosed, then Yvette is not being fair to either Hollier or her program.
Hollier knows the rules about transfers. She may have been going by previous actions taken by Yvette when other transfers were given immediate release, but I'm sure each situation is taken on a case by case basis. See above for the possible reason why this release wasn't granted.
Sheesh, another chapter in the Yvette vs. the Lotiefs, Yvette vs. UL, LSU vs. UL saga. Understand, it's never about the Lotiefs vs. LSU. There is no such thing. Mike & Stefni have no axe to grind against LSU. They actually have no axe to grind against Yvette. They have their program. It's successful because they do everything right. They understand that the players are the program and they come first before wins or losses, convenience or inconvenience, surplus or insufficiency. They will always take the high road whenever it comes to what is best for the person.
Yvette is in a no win situation here. Now that she has refused to release the player, no matter what the reason, if she does release her after Hollier talks to Alleva, she will be perceived in a negative light. If she doesn't release her, she will be perceived as uncaring towards her players, whether justified in her actions or not. The only drama I care to see between these teams and people is on the field in Oklahoma City. All this other business needs to go away.
After having Vanessa Soto return to Baton Rouge and help the Cajuns beat LSU in a regional, I certainly understand her motivation. Let's not kid ourselves, Yvette has every right not to release any athlete. But, let us also not pretend we don't understand her actions. Yvette Girouard is no fan of UL's program period. And for the record, I'm not interested in seeing these teams play together in Oklahoma, I'd much rather see one program defeated at a home site regional. That is what a true rivalry is all about!

LSU signed two infielders this past fall. Tammy Wray from NY and the girl from Parkview. So Hollier could be replaced on the field for the tigers. I'm just excited to see her in a Cajun uniform in the future wheather it's next season or next!
All the more reason for coach Girouard to release Hollier and move on.
The only drama I care to see between these teams and people is on the field in Oklahoma City.
WTF?????
Finally got in touch with someone at UL today. Hollier has pre-registered for the fall semester, according to the register's office.
No one from LSU has replied to my request for comment.
