UPDATE: Release of Preliminary Findings
Traffic investigators have released the identity of the victim in this morning's fatal crash as Jacob C. Theriot (23) of Lafayette. The driver of the vehicle, Brittany Davis of Ville Platte, was cited for Failure to Yield at an Intersection and issued a Notice of Violation for No Insurance. The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Section.

The owner of the motorcycle contacted KATC and disputes the report and says the motorcycle crashed into the side of the vehicle, not the back.

Fatal Crash Involving Motorcycle
Original Release: July 29, 2010 @ 3:15 am
On July 29, 2010, at approximately 12:30 am, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 2200 block of the NE Evangeline Thruway regarding a crash involving a motorcycle. According to witnesses, the motorcycle was traveling north on the Evangeline Thruway with several other riders when a vehicle on NE Frontage Road turned into his lane of travel. The motorcycle struck the rear of the vehicle, ejecting the rider. The driver of the motorcycle, a 23 year old male of Lafayette, was pronounced dead at the scene. The three occupants of the vehicle were transported to an area hospital with minor to moderate injuries. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin. The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit.
