Thread: U L Progress Continued!

Ragin' Cajuns U L Progress Continued!

This is a continuation of my last post on the progress of U L as an institution to include Athletics!

I did mentioned the population in a 32 mile radius of Lafayette of apprx 550-575 thousand and the average per capita income in the top 25 in the nation as reported by the Wall Street Journal in 2008. Southern living magazine rated Lafayette and Acadiana as one of the top 10 places to live in the South in 2008!

Do realize that U L assumes a position of a tier 2 school as per The Southern Regional Education Board that encompasses 16 southern states and rates all of the public institutions in these states.

With the new academic admission requirements U L will graduate in four years at least 54-55% (the national average) of their students. We have adopted the same admission requirements as Tech and we will assume these numbers due to the new admission requirements.

Do realize that Dr. Savoie is determined to achieve great success as an institution of higher learning while promoting athletics as well. He realizes that athletics can become the "front porch" of advertising for an institution if developed properly! He is determined to achieve this initiative!

We are nearing completion of the softball stadium to be completed by Nov 1, paid in full. Then, we will embark on the baseball stadium with major donors on board to aid in the finance portion. The plans are being completed and we are looking at approx. 7-8 million dollars in costs! Both facilities are constructed to qualify as facilities for regional play as per the NCAA requirements! Afterwards, a major renovation to the football stadium is on tap within approx 24 months.

Keep in mind that our sister schools of McNeese and Nichols passed athletic fees by their students of $79 per semester at Nicholls and $40 at McNeese!

Our location and Acadiana is a blessing to our institution! We have started the RCAF and we are doing very well in these dire economic times! We are on the move! So, let's keep rolling!

If you are reading this and considering joining the Ragin Cajun Athletic Foundation (RCAF) then do so! There is power in numbers and enrollment is doing very well! Become a member today or tomorrow will do, but make the commitment!

    So, let's Go Cajuns! Thanks!

So student athletic fees are allowed in the University of Louisiana System?

Do I understand correctly from your post that the prohibition on student fees for athletics is no longer in place? If that is the case Ul needs to implement such a fee immediately. With our student enrollment a fee $100 per semester could greatly increase our budget.

Hammer, I remember hearing something that if student activity fees are used to support athletics then a corresponding reduction in state funding will occur. Thereby gaining nothing for the university and actually putting a larger burden upon students. You know how our state operates.

Student fees are allowed only if the students pass a referendum that must be appproved by the president of the univesity for any initiative in question! The student fee does not co-mingle with any state funding to academics because student fees are dedicated fees and can only be spent on a dediated initiative. For instance, the indoor facility is paid in full and the fees are still comng in every semester. The fees can only be spent on facilities and nothing else!

This will be part of the funding for the new baseballl stadium renovation and addition! That same fee also helps the cheerleaders and the band as well (part of the dedication)! The part of the fee allocated to the indoor facility can only be spent on facilities as afore mentioned, i. e. baseballl renovation!

Ah hah. So that is the key. That's nice to know. It won't help on the budget side but will help on facility improvements.

Student fees are not allowed for coaches salaries and travel expenses! That is why we must play a couple of money games every year! Each university in our system can spend 3% of our total academic budget on athletics every, year and no more! With RCAF we will limit ourselves to two money games a year! Student fees are allowed as dedicated funds into perpituity such as the indoor facility fee, still being collected but can only be used for facilities, nothing else! The baseballl stadium will be a receipient of this fee for the new renovation! So the student fee would not increase our buget for athletics but could facilitate many great building additions! What about a separate fee for other operating expenses such as nutritional supplements, equipment, etc? If the expense of some of those items could be paid for by a dedicated fee would it free up money from the 3% budget for coaches salaries and expenses that cannot be covered by fees?

I think he is referring to that particular fee since it was passed as a dedicated facility fee. Am I interpreting that correctly, ULVictory?

He does all this work for the benefit of a all...and you comment that he needs to use paragraphs? Our negativity is amazing sometimes.
